As if shooting a wedding on the Oregon Coast isn’t exciting enough for me, the anticipation became greater after photographing Deb & Tony’s engagement session.

These guys are a great couple. A couple times I had to reel them in because they were so absorbed in each other’s conversations. I love that when a couple I’m photographing are that into each other. It makes it so much easier to get fun, natural shots.

While planning the session, Tony wanted to include this tandem bike and Deb recommended East Campus in Lincoln as a location. I hadn’t thought of East Campus since I was a photographer at UNL’s Daily Nebraskan. That place is a photographic gold mine–especially now that classes aren’t in session. After leaving East Campus we spent a short bit of time in the Haymarket before heading over to Oak Lake.

Awesome guys. I’m looking forward to sand and sun in August!

[PS...William Lauer pointed out that my RSS feed is not posting all my photos. I don't know what's wrong. If you are not seeing photos with this entry, you should be. Please go directly to my blog by clicking here. ]

I met Katie at the the Tri-City

Bridal Expo in January. We talked a bit and she really liked my style of

work, and I really enjoyed talking with her. Unfortunately I already booked

her wedding date.

About a week later, Katie was the first person I thought of after coming up

with an agreement with Alyssa Schukar to shoot for Lane Weddings. After getting

a chance to edit Alyssa’s engagement session with Katie and Mark, I’m so glad

I did.

The photos are gorgeous. The two are a very attractive couple and I can’t wait

to see what Alyssa does with the wedding photos in September. It looks like

the three of them had a good time making their way through the Haymarket area

and Pioneers Park in Lincoln.

I wasn’t sure how well it was going to go: editing the photos of another photographer.

But let me tell you it was a treat. As I went through her take, each photo kept

getting better than the one before. Alyssa is such an amazing photographer.

Last month she was named the Photographer of the Year by the Nebraska News Photographer’s

Association–the first time a freelancer won the award for as long as I’ve been

paying attention. She has an amazing eye for light has an incredible skill for

capturing emotions.

I’m very fortunate to have her on the Lane Weddings team.

You can check out her newly-designed editorial web sitehere.

I had a blast photographing Brandy and Shelby in the historic old town of Brownville, Neb. Brownville is this quaint old town along the Missouri River and is Nebraska’s oldest town. It’s a charming little place where the arts are embraced along with the town’s history.

Towards the end of our session we went to an old, abandoned farmhouse that is perched atop a hill just outside Brownville. Brandy and Shelby were both awesome sports and willing to try just about anything I suggested. During twighlight I thought it might be cool to have them in the house. I was going to use a remote light to light it up and shoot them through the window from outdoors.

As we approached the door, the faint scent of skunk and visual contact with a bat made us think otherwise. I think the photos we took outside suited us just fine!

Later that night I stayed with my in-laws on their farm near Tecumseh. Ironically, their dog got sprayed by a skunk that very night. It made me appreciate our decision to keep the photo session outdoors.

I shoot most of my engagement sessions in the evening so that I can take advantage of the light at the end of the day. As each day day comes to an close, the sky frequently comes alive with color.

Such was the case last week while photographing Donovan and Jennifer’s engagement session. We had a nice shoot in Lincoln’s Haymarket. But the magic really started as the sun set at Oak Lake, just outside of downtown Lincoln.

Here’s a pic I was going to blog a long time ago–from my last wedding.

This photo was not-at-all my idea, but I enjoy sophomoric humor as much as the next guy. The guys at this wedding were all good sports. With rain coming down, we went under an overpass instead of to a park for a quick photo session followed by a wedding-party trip to the bar.

This is one of the super fun parts of my job. A lot of times I find myself in these situations–where the bride, groom, and only the network of their very closest friends are around, having a blast during the time between the ceremony and the reception–away from parents, aunts, uncles and other guests.

While I’m obviously there to work, my wedding parties almost always treat me like I’m one of them. I appreciate that graciousness.

That means the smell of fresh cut grass, the rumbling noise of a passing thunderstorm, and if you are a wedding photographer, it’s a great time to shoot engagement sessions.

To kick off the season, Kristin and Andrew came to Grand Island from Lincoln for a Lane Weddings’ Ultimate Engagement Session. Grand Island isn’t exactly flush with great places to shoot, but I have to say the three of us really rocked out this e-session. We spent some time shooting in the hustling, bustling downtown area followed by a nice little dusk session at Mormon Island State Park.

The two of them were a wonderful couple and very good to work with. It’s always fun for me to work with a couple that seem to belong with each other. All I have to do is turn the right dials and push the button.

Congratulations to Adam and Tammy, who had a wonderful wedding

Saturday. The ceremony was at Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island, followed

by a reception at the Howard

Johnson Hotel Riverside in Grand Island. Roses

For You did an amazing job decorating, making the HoJo look spectacular.

I had a lot of fun shooting their wedding. Tammy’s contageous

smile could really lighten up a dark reception hall.
