Husker Senior Day 2009 from Lane Hickenbottom on Vimeo.
I usually get along with all my clients pretty well, but every once in a while there is a client whose interactions with me make my job especially fun. Angela is that kind of person. She was a riot on her wedding day, constantly flipping me sh%t, laughing, and having herself a great day. And she couldn’t have married a better guy. Lincoln is just a very well-meaning, all-around nice guy. On top of that, I really enjoyed both of their mothers, who both made me feel right at home.
And Angela, if you see this, maybe you’ll leave a comment below as to who your florist was. Very cool, non-conventional stuff.
Thanks for such a great wedding!

What might be my last engagement session of the season was with a very cool couple, James and Ivy. We spent a recent evening in downtown, making a nice collection of images. While shooting at the Leahy Mall, Ivy warned me that swans can be vicious. I shrugged off her warning a little bit; afterall, I had photographed in this same spot near the same swans maybe a dozen other times without problem.
Sure enough, this would be the time the swans decided to take issue with my invasion of their space. More than once I had to stand my ground. Okay…more than once I had to retreat. It really wasn’t such an issue except for images where I was shooting low to the ground with my back turned towards them.
Pesky backstabbin’ birds!

How could anybody not love Nebraska City in autumn? When Ryan and Lindsey said they wanted to shoot their engagement session in Nebraska City, I gave them two enthusiastic thumbs up! We really couldn’t have been there on a better day as far as the colors were concerned. Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful!
And now I have to just sit and eagerly wait for June, because when a member of the Lempka clan gets married, they really know how to party!

I don’t shoot a whole lot of Friday weddings, but Laura and Andrew put good use to a Friday afternoon last month. I already blogged an image of St. John’s at dusk from that wedding, but also promised to blog more once I started working on the images.
I love this first image. Anybody who’s familiar with my work knows I love shooting wide when I can get away with it. I love grand visual spaces where I can incorporate my subject as small part of their environment. This was shot at Creighton University when Laura and Andrew first saw each other. Afterward we shot in several beautiful portraits in the same general location before moving into the church.
