Hey, it turns out I wasn’t done shooting engagement sessions for the year.

Congratulations to Steve and Sara!

I’ve had a few photographers ask me lately what I’ve been using to light my portraits.

I usually just use one light so I can quick on my feet and shoot several settings in a short time. I use an Alien Bees 800 monolight juiced by a power unit I put together with a 12-volt marine battery and a pure-sine inverter. I sometimes use a softbox, but usually use an umbrella for portability.

The power unit lets me use a monolight just about anywhere, which is nice. It also allows me to use a model light, which is especially useful when shooting during the last bits of twilight, like I did here with Steve and Sara last weekend.

Thanks for reading!
